There are some milestones in life that are meant to be celebrated in unforgettable ways—and if you’re lucky enough to be pregnant at the same time as your best friend, trust me, that’s one of them.
With our first babies, my best friend and I—both glowing (read: slightly exhausted but happy) mamas-to-be—decided to do something a little out of the ordinary for our maternity shoot. Instead of fields of flowers or flowing gowns in golden hour light (no shade to those! I also did that), we hit the Boardwalk at the Jersey Shore. It turned out to be one of the most unforgettable days of our friendship and pregnancies. Here’s why you should consider doing the same with your bestie.
1. Double the Belly, Double the Joy
Pregnancy is a wild ride, and sharing that journey with your best friend makes every kick, craving, and emotional rollercoaster a little more magical. Capturing this chapter together isn't just adorable—it's meaningful. These photos are proof that you didn’t just grow babies, you grew memories together.
2. Your Comfort Zone Is Built-In
Let’s be honest—posing for photos while pregnant can be a little awkward. You’re not always feeling your best, your feet might be swollen, and those angles can get tricky. But with your best friend by your side? You’ll laugh, relax, and actually enjoy the experience. No forced smiles here—just genuine connection and giggles between two women who get it.
3. It’s Way More Fun Than a Traditional Shoot
We traded flower crowns for cotton candy and it was so worth it.
Our photoshoot was more like a day out than a formal session. We walked the boardwalk letting our bumps out, played arcade games, posed by the rides, and even took shots by the beach with sand between our toes. We ate boardwalk pizza with no regrets, devoured ice cream like it was our job, and split a massive swirl of cotton candy —but it was perfect.
4. You’ll Create Core Memories Before the Chaos Begins
Let’s be real—once the babies arrive, life shifts in a major way. These maternity photos are more than just a celebration of pregnancy—they're a time capsule of one last carefree adventure before motherhood begins. You’ll look back on these images and remember how you felt: excited, nervous, bloated—and unbelievably happy.
5. You’re Documenting a Rare and Beautiful Moment
How often does life align like this? To be pregnant at the same time as your best friend is rare and special. Someday, your babies will look at these photos and know their moms were side-by-side even before they were born. That bond? It started before day one. We're 30 years in and now raising the next generation of besties.
Whether you’re a boardwalk girlie, like us, or planning something completely different, consider grabbing your bestie and turning your maternity photos into a shared experience. It doesn’t have to be traditional. It doesn’t have to be serious. It just has to be you both—together.
